Fashion

Fashion has always played a huge role in my life.  When I weighed over 500 pounds, Fashion was non-existant in my life.  I had to buy and wear what would fit from online retailers.

7      7Shares       “The secret of change is not to focus all of your energy on fighting the old, but on building the new.” – Socrates The way we think and feel has the power to control our mood and how we get through the day. If we wake up in a bad, negative space, chances are we are just going to call it a bad day and we will continue to be in a negative and unhappy place all day long.  We may not always be in control of the situations around us, but we have the control and the power as to how we are going to respond. Our mood can also determine how we react to situations throughout the day.  Our actions and how we treat others, including ourselves can sometimes be affected by our mood as well. There are things in life that I feel drain me and my energy and there are definitely things that I can allow to control my mood. So I am doing my best (I am still a work in progress) to ditch these negative energy drainers so that I can take back control and be the one in charge of how I feel and the mood that I am in.  In order to live a happy and positive life, it is important to be aware of things that can be draining to our physical and emotional health and wellbeing. Sometimes the things that may be stopping us from living…

“You Should Not Wear Yellow” I remember I was once told that I could not wear yellow.  I don’t know if it was because of my hair, my skin tone…or my body shape?   But for whatever reason, that is just what someone told me.  I could not wear yellow. Something you might not know about me is that if you tell me I cannot do something, chances are I am going to do it.  My mom calls it stubborn, Kevin says it is the sassy in me.  I call it like this, I will be the one in charge of what I can and cannot do.  Yes, I am a bit sassy and may be stubborn at times, but if I set my mind to something then watch out!  What I want to happen is going to happen. Did I let her comment stop me from wearing yellow? Hell no!  I rocked yellow, even at 500 pounds.  Just because I choose to do or not do something, does not mean that what others say about me doesn’t affect me or bother me sometimes. Even if I am choosing to do or not choosing to do something, does not mean I never feel insecure.  Other peoples words still affect me even if it may not seem like it to someone just passing by. “I will not allow others opinions control what I can and cannot do” What I have learned is that just because I may feel insecure or…

As much as I love winter, there is just something about springtime that brings me so much happiness.  The flowers are all blooming, the weather is getting warmer, and everything is just opening up and waking up from its long winter hibernation.  Spring also reminds me of the power of new beginnings and how anything is possible!  For if a flower can push its way up from out of the dirt and grow into something beautiful, then I know I too can find the sunlight and let myself bloom! Easter is also in the spring and I LOVE Easter.  It is literally right around the corner now too!!  For me, springtime is also super special and not just because of the flowers and knowing anything is possible, but a time to celebrate.  I am a very religious person and Easter reminds me just how much Jesus loves me, and how he created me and loves me just the way I am.  It is a time to reflect on my own personal sins and a time to ask for forgiveness and love so that I can only continue to move forward on my journey and be the best me possible, the me I was created to be. So this Easter, I decided to treat myself to this super cute white dress (LWD) and I think it is perfect for Easter or just springtime in general.  I think we all need to have a LWD in our wardrobe!  There is just something about wearing white right now…

Along my weight loss journey, I was constantly comparing where I was to others and constantly wishing I was farther along.  I found myself wishing I was at the place others were, and saying “I wish I had her body.” I was so focused on everyone else, that at the time, I never realized all of the amazing things that I was doing or just how far along I really had come myself!  When you are constantly focused on the finish line and worrying about what others are doing, you have no time to recognize or realize just how great you are!  You are amazing just the way you are! Along my journey I was told that “comparison is the thief of joy” and it wasn’t until much later on my journey that I realized and understood what that really meant. Finally, I realized that if I wanted to fully love myself, take care of myself and believe in myself then I had to focus on well…myself. Comparing yourself to others is easy to do.  I am sure at one point or another we have all done it.  Yes I have to admit that I sometimes still find myself slipping back into those old ways of thinking and say, “I wish I was more like her” or “I wish I had what she has.”  But these tips have really helped me to try and overcome that constant need to compare myself, my journey or…
