2016 has been such a crazy year.  It was filled with so many highs, lows  and some memories that I will never forget and some that I hope to forget.  For me, I believe that everything happens for a reason and this year especially I had to constantly remind myself of this.  I am also a very impatient person and when things don’t go as fast or as I would like them to go it is a real struggle for me.  For me, 2016 was a year of struggle, pain, fighting battles, love, excitement, and pushing myself to see how far I could go.  All in all, this has been a year of discovering more about my self, and reassuring myself that I am tougher than I think, braver than I believe, and stronger than I know.  I wanted to highlight some of the major points that happened this year to help remind myself and all of you that if you keep pushing, fighting and believing in yourself and never give up that anything is possible.  Sure there may be some rough patches along the way, but those are the moments that help us grow, and also help us learn the most about ourselves.  These moments are the ones that teach us who we really are.   2016 started off great.  Kevin and I woke up early to get our first workout of the year in on New Years Day.    Kevin and I celebrated our one year…

Day 12 – Christmas Eve, Baking cookies for Santa.  One of my new favorite Christmas Traditions is baking cookies with my two cousins for Santa.  Every year we bake and decorate sugar cookies as well as one other flavor that they pick.  We make whatever flavor they choose together from scratch, this year they chose snickerdoodle.   Kevin does a lot of the work while I get messy and have fun with the boys and my sister is usually taking pictures and laughing as we fool around and get flour everywhere.  I love watching the boys faces as the mixer brings the cookie dough together.    They always get to take a tiny taste before its baked and somehow there always ends up being more M&Ms or chocolate chips that make in into their mouth than into the bowl.   Once the cookies are all baked we of course need to taste them to make sure that they are up to Santa’s standards.  Making cookies is a tradition that all of us hold near and dear to our hearts and look forward to around Christmas time.    A few weeks ago I was reminded by my 8 year old cousin that we might have a little problem on our hands.  When they came over for a visit after my surgery he asked how we were going to make cookies for Santa, if I was hurt and couldn’t move my arms.  Holding back the tears, I told him don’t worry, with Christmas magic in…

Day 7 – My Top 10 Tips for Surviving the Holidays!     It is the most wonderful time of the year!  The sights and sounds of Christmas are all around us.  We are surrounded by so much laughter, joy and food…lots and lots of food.  For me Christmas is my favorite time of year, but has also been one of the most challenging time of year to stay committed to my health and fitness goals.  In the past I have completely deprived myself from enjoying anything food related around the holidays.  I stuck to my food plan, and wouldn’t even allow myself one bite of a Christmas cookie.  To be honest, this really made me sad to feel that way.  On the other hand, I have also allowed myself to REALLY indulge and that only left me more miserable than before.  Over the years, I have found a healthy balance of not completely depriving myself and at the same time not going completely overboard.  With Christmas being about a week away, I thought I would share my “Top 10 Tips to Surviving the Holidays.” I am hoping that by sharing my tips, I can help you not stress over the parties and gatherings that you go to, but go in confident that you can enjoy yourself while still keeping your health and fitness goals in mind.      Tip 1.  Exercise – It is important get a good workout in, not only to burn some calories but to start the…
