Happy New Year! I am so excited for 2017 because I am so ready and motivated to keep growing! I have been asked several times what my new years resolution is and to be honest, I never really like making resolutions at the beginning of the year because I make goals for myself all year long. I find that in the past when I say this is the year I will (insert resolution here) that I put too much pressure on myself. If I “mess up” or “slip up” I feel like I failed and just give up completely.
Most of my resolutions in the past have always been to lose weight and I can’t think of any other “resolution” I have made…ever! This year, I am not putting that pressure on myself. This year, I am making the resolution or decision to just be happy. It is more of a new mindset that you can start or carry into the new year. I think happiness can also be fitness related and can apply to anyone who sets goals or resolutions to lose weight in the new year. By finding happiness in yourself, you are not trying to be anything but yourself. By being happy, it means taking care of yourself and being the best you that you can be.
For me, when the new year comes along, I like to reset, not completely start over, but rather adjust things in my life that do not make me happy and figure out new ways to fix the areas of my life that I am upset with. There is not one big step, moment or decision that will get you there. It will take many little moments over a long period of time in order to see the changes we want to see. It is ok if you mess up or slip up a few times, because you still have thousands of moments left. It is in those moments that we really being to change and grow.
So many times people try to make resolutions for a whole year and try to be perfect all year and when they aren’t “perfect” they give up and say I’ll try again next year. If you take it one moment at time, I find it to be less overwhelming and easier to stick to the plan.
So, to answer the question, my resolution or goal for this year is to be happy. I am going make the choices and decisions in my life that are best for me and help me reach my goals and my dreams. I am going to work my hardest each day to live a life that I am proud of. I am going to make sure I am healthy and living my life to the fullest. I promise myself that if something is bothering me, I will make the necessary changes to fix it and not just complain about it. I am going to believe in myself and fight for what I know I deserve and never stop until I have accomplished or achieved everything I want.
Will you join me now, in 2017, to love yourself and be happy? I know you can do it!
