2016 has been such a crazy year. It was filled with so many highs, lows and some memories that I will never forget and some that I hope to forget. For me, I believe that everything happens for a reason and this year especially I had to constantly remind myself of this. I am also a very impatient person and when things don’t go as fast or as I would like them to go it is a real struggle for me. For me, 2016 was a year of struggle, pain, fighting battles, love, excitement, and pushing myself to see how far I could go. All in all, this has been a year of discovering more about my self, and reassuring myself that I am tougher than I think, braver than I believe, and stronger than I know. I wanted to highlight some of the major points that happened this year to help remind myself and all of you that if you keep pushing, fighting and believing in yourself and never give up that anything is possible. Sure there may be some rough patches along the way, but those are the moments that help us grow, and also help us learn the most about ourselves. These moments are the ones that teach us who we really are.
2016 started off great. Kevin and I woke up early to get our first workout of the year in on New Years Day.
Kevin and I celebrated our one year fitaversary at Fit For Life Solutions. I also started doing more personal training this year with Bo.
I fit into a size small in clothes!! I also bought my first Kate Spade shirt which was… a size 4!
I celebrated 4 years of being on Jenny Craig and finally hitting my “goal” weight with my wonderful consultant and friend Kim.
This year I focused more on maintaining weight than weightlos, which was mentally difficult for me.
I also had to cut back and modify a lot more of my workouts because of the excess skin pulling on my body and causing me a lot of pain. I was also experiencing lots of headaches, neck and back pain from my excess skin causing my posture to be off.
Kevin and I went to Nashville to cater an event with our cupcakes. It was amazing!
We also traveled to Ohio to visit Kevin’s family for Easter.
These trips were huge for me because it was my first time flying in a while. I actually fit comfortably in my seat and had lots of room to spare with my seatbelt. Going through security was another story that mentally was very difficult for me, but thats another story for another time.
We were also able to go to a few San Francisco Giants games!
In July, I decided to my start social media accounts to share my journey in hopes to help and inspire others. I never could have imagines the amount of love and support that I received and continue to receive daily.
Also in July, I had my first skin removal surgery. This surgery was a circumferential lower body lift with a “fleur de lis.”
I was interviewed by the local CBS news station and also a local radio station Wild 94.9FM to share my story.
I also had my story shared several places online. TODAY.com, FitnessMagazine.com, Heidipowell.net …just to name a few.
In October I had the opportunity to go to Santa Monica with Jenny Craig, which was amazing! We got to meet some really great people while we were here as well as meet up with some family.
A few days after that we were heading off to New York City for me to be on the TODAY show. I was on with Joy Bauer to join the “Joy Fit Club” on the Kathie Lee and Hoda segment. This was probably the most excited I have ever been and was an amazing experience!
I surprised Kevin with tickets and we went to our first Golden State Warriors game together.
My family and I went to San Francisco to spend some time together before my next surgery and we saw The Lion King.
At the end of November I had my second skin removal surgery. This time I had a circumferential upper body lift and also had my arms done.
Through out the year I have been fighting with my insurance company in regards to my surgeries. It has been a constant back and forth with lots of appeals and reasonings that make no sense at all. Just like everything in life, I am going to continue fighting for what is right and the help that I should be receiving.
So yeah, 2016 has been quite a year. I wouldn’t necessarily call this a “bad” year at all, but I am ready to see 2016 go. I am ready for a new year, a fresh start where I will be stronger and better than ever. I can’t wait to continue to fight, love, heal, and inspire as many people as possible. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey. Kevin, my family, my friends, Kim my consultant, trainers, FFL family, and my new social media friends; I can’t thank you enough for everything. This has been one hell of a ride 2016 and I can’t wait to see what 2017 brings. “So hang on to your hats and glasses folks! Cause this here is the wildest ride in the wilderness.” I wish you all a happy, healthy, safe New Year!
