I love watching movies. I love sitting down any time, any day, at home or at the movie theater. But I also love snacking, especially while I am watching a movie. So this can create a real problem for me and it can make me sometimes feel more frustrated when watching a movie because I cannot just mindlessly snack like I did before. But just because you may be trying to lose weight or follow a healthier lifestyle and overindulging in your favorite snack foods is not something you want or can do, it does not mean you can NEVER snack and can NEVER enjoy snacking while watching a movie.
Over the years I have tried a lot of tricks to be able to still enjoy my snacks, especially when I go to the movie theater and there are so many temping snacks available right at my fingertips.
I have created a list of my favorite snacks to enjoy while watching a movie at home, or out at the theater.
Of course you can always snack on fruit or veggies (which I do a lot) but i want to come uo with some better ideas than that! Something that will give you that nice sweet and salty snack treat like you can get with popcorn and candy at the movie theater, as well as volume so you can snack for a little longer and feel more satisfied!
A few weekends ago I went to see Beauty and the Beast with my cousins. I had been waiting, counting down the days until it came out since they started advertising for it. For me, being able to go to the movies is a huge accomplishment in itself. There was a time when I would not go because I did not fit in the chairs and because I was afraid of being pointed and laughed at. So being able to finally see this movie, and with my cousins, and not having to worry about fitting in the chair….I was filled with so many emotions that I didn’t know what to do with myself. I was also happy that I did not have to worry about what snacks I would be eating, or being upset that I couldnt have anything. I came prepared and knew exactly what I was going to do.
So I am going to be sharing a list of my favorite go to snacks. This is just what works for me. Let me know if you have any other favorite movie snack treats!
My favorite go to snacks for the movies-
1. Popcorn- I love measuring out the amount of popcorn I like or what works in the program I am doing and taking it with me. I love skinny pop because you get a pretty good amount for relatively low calorie.
I don’t really drink soda at all anymore (I used to be obsessed with Diet Coke) however every once and a while when I am out, I will get a small diet coke and that alone is a little treat. It also keeps you occupied with drinking and not so focused on eating. It also helps keep you full. I will also sometimes get a big water, or a coffee. A lot of movie theaters have a starbucks or a coffee bar now and I will order an iced coffee, or a hot coffee and that is something I love sipping on while watching a movie too!
Yes, you read that right, candy! If you can measure out a serving of your favorite candy then great! Or you can bring something that works for you. I love bringing a See’s candy lollipop with me. Calorie wise it is pretty good and it takes a long time to eat. I also love sugar free lollipops, especially the ones from Disneyland! I will also bring some dark chocolate chips (made with stevia) and mix that with my popcorn, this is the best! Any of these options is a great way to still have a little treat!
4. Always check the concession stands
I was surprised that I found bags of apple chips at the concession stands at the theater. They also had unsweetened flavored ice tea and some dried fruit. I was so excited to see these options there!
Whatever you choose, make sure you are making the decision that is best for you. Remember you are in control of what you choose to eat and what you choose not to eat. You always have the choice. So don’t go into it thinking of all the things that you can’t eat. Go in prepared, with a plan, and know that you are the one choosing to have or not to have something.
If you want to go and enjoy yourself with candy and popcorn, go right ahead. I am not here to tell you that you cannot do that either! I am just giving you some ideas and letting you know what I do.
For me, I love enjyoing my sugar free lollipop and my own popcorn. Maybe a little diet coke too. That works great for me! Eating your favorite foods, or being able to snack at the movies is not something you have to give up. Making the right choices and being able to do what is right for you is what matters most.
