Extreme Weight loss; The Ugly Truths || The Things That Nobody Wants to Talk About

Extreme weight loss.  Losing weight.  Beginning a new chapter of your life, starting a new journey, deciding to become the best you that you can possibly be.  We all hear others talk about how we can be anything we want to be and do anything we want to do.  We are told to follow our dreams and that anything is possible.  Often times, especially on a weight loss journey, we are told: “just do it.”   Part of having success is having a plan.  How can you be successful if you don’t know how to get there? I know people don’t like talking about the hard stuff or the stuff that may not be so pretty along the path to success or following our dreams.  But I think these hard moments are just as important as the pep talks and the “you can do its.”  The fact of the matter is, that losing weight is so much more than just losing weight.  It can get messy, complicated, scary and lonely.  It can take you down a dark path and make you feel lost and alone.  So what are some of the ugly truths of weight loss that I feel are so important and helped me become who I am today? Excuses…everybody has them and uses them as to why they can’t lose weight Yes, I made a bunch of excuses and justified to others and to myself why I would not and did not want to lose weight. It is…

A Day Filled With Baseball…and So Many Non-Scale Victories (NSV)

I am so happy baseball season is here! Something that you may not know about me is that I am a huge sports fan.  I have been a San Francisco Giants fan since birth.  Being born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, orange and black run through my veins.  You might be thinking what do baseball games and non-scale victories have to do with each other, but believe me Tuesday, April 3, 2018, was a day filled with so much more than just baseball. Going to baseball games has always been one of my favorite things to do.  When I was younger all I wanted to do was go to a baseball game on my birthday, but being a February baby, that was never possible!  When springtime hit, I was there! I was blessed to be able to attend the 2002 World Series, which was a huge highlight for me.  Seeing the Giants play in the World Series and actually being in the ballpark was a dream come true for me.  However, I do not like to talk about the outcome since the wounds have not healed yet.  I was also able to attend opening day many years ago with my dad and that was another very special day for me as well, even though we did, in fact, lose that game! It is hard to imagine a time when going to the ballpark was not a part of my life. Reality is…well, there was a…

Wearing Yellow and Overcoming Self Doubt and Negative Self Talk

“You Should Not Wear Yellow” I remember I was once told that I could not wear yellow.  I don’t know if it was because of my hair, my skin tone…or my body shape?   But for whatever reason, that is just what someone told me.  I could not wear yellow. Something you might not know about me is that if you tell me I cannot do something, chances are I am going to do it.  My mom calls it stubborn, Kevin says it is the sassy in me.  I call it like this, I will be the one in charge of what I can and cannot do.  Yes, I am a bit sassy and may be stubborn at times, but if I set my mind to something then watch out!  What I want to happen is going to happen. Did I let her comment stop me from wearing yellow? Hell no!  I rocked yellow, even at 500 pounds.  Just because I choose to do or not do something, does not mean that what others say about me doesn’t affect me or bother me sometimes. Even if I am choosing to do or not choosing to do something, does not mean I never feel insecure.  Other peoples words still affect me even if it may not seem like it to someone just passing by. “I will not allow others opinions control what I can and cannot do” What I have learned is that just because I may feel insecure or self…

Something that many people say when talking about losing weight, getting fit or just getting healthy overall is   “starting is the hardest part.”  To be honest, I say this a lot too because it is true.  Getting started is the hardest part.  You also hear things like, “it will become so much easier once you just start”, and I know for me, when someone told me this….it was not very helpful.  If I knew how to “just start” I would not be in this position of needing help with where to start in the first place.  If it were just that simple, I don’t think people would ask this question as often as they do. So yes, starting is the hardest part and yes it does become easier as you go…but how do you ACTUALLY just start? Here are some tips that I learned along my journey and I hope they can help you too.  If you hear someone say, you just have to start, you know exactly what that means and you can then you can follow these tips to get yourself started. Tips for Getting Started with Weight loss, Fitness, Getting Healthy…Really Anything 1. Make a Plan Figure out what you want to do.  If it is losing weight, pick a program that you feel like you can stick to for the long term.  Learn all about that program or way of eating so you know exactly what you…
