The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year…but they can also be the most stressful time of the year too. I know firsthand how challenging it can be dealing with family and friends and let’s face it, food when you are not quite so confident and happy in your body. The comments, being around food, guilt, lack of boundaries and did I mention being surrounded by food? I have another post with tips on how to handle food in Disneyland but they also work EVERYWHERE.
So, I wanted to create this post to share with you some of the magic of the holidays at Disneyland and share some of the holiday foods I tried this season. Spending time at my happy place, especially during the holidays is such a magical time for me, and learning to enjoy the foods, without going all in or all out and listening to my body, and not feeling shameful for what I eat or throw away because I did not like them is a huge part of recovery. Although I still have a long way to go, I am also proud of how far I have come.
I also wanted to share some tips I am working on as well that not only help my relationship with food but setting boundaries with loved ones, help me to keep doing my best this time of year, and remind me to step into my power and never give that power away.
So I hope you enjoy these tips and of course some of the yummy holiday foods at Disneyland
Tip 1- Your body does not define you.
This means your weight does not determine your worth, value, beauty, or inspiration level. Despite being in a larger body than I was before- who I am, what I share on this platform, and what I believe has never changed
Tip 2 – It’s ok for your body to change.
When I was at my lowest weight- I was sick and unhealthy. And while I am not 💯 happy with where I am now, I know my body will continue to change as I heal, recover, and truly learn to take care of myself
Tip 3 – If the size of your body determines whether someone loves you or respects you- let them go!
We don’t need to carry around that hate, shame, and negativity from others (yes that even includes family members)
Tip 4 – Let the comments hurt
I would be lying if I didn’t say comments like this pierce me right through the heart, so I allow them to hurt. Then, I release them. I remind myself of who I am, what I am working on, and how when others make comments like this, it only reflects them as a person, not me.
Tip 5 – Step into your power
Stand firm in who you are, and what your boundaries are, and continue to do what is best for YOU! This is your life, make sure you are living your life for you! Own who you are, stand firm in who you are, and never give your power away.
